# Discovery happens before a human ever sees your site

*Wraith Blog — Oct 11, 2026*

When someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Claude about your product, an
agent — not a person — is the first reader of your page. What you serve
it decides whether you're cited, summarized, or skipped entirely.

## The visitor that decides whether you get found
Search used to be a list of blue links. Now it's an answer. When a user
asks an answer engine "what tool detects bots on my site," an agent
crawls your page, tries to extract a coherent story, and either cites
you or moves on to a competitor whose content was easier to read. That
visit is the moment discovery happens.

The same pattern spreads past search: support agents fetch docs to
answer tickets, procurement agents compare products, coding agents read
API references. In every case the agent is a real visitor making a real
decision about your content — it just isn't human.

## What an agent sees today
Hundreds of kilobytes of DOM, layout markup, nav chrome, cookie banners,
and JavaScript it may not execute. Token for token, most pages are
mostly noise. Or worse: bot protection that can't tell a customer from
a scraper returns a CAPTCHA or a block page — and you lose the citation,
the support resolution, or the sale.

An agent that can't read you confidently won't cite you. It'll cite
whoever made itself readable.

## Detect first, then serve
Wraith classifies three archetypes:
- declared_api: honest crawlers announcing themselves via User-Agent
or headers — caught server-side before JS runs.
- synthetic_browser: scripted browsers and computer-use agents detected
by pointer kinematics — implausible velocities, zero-curvature sweeps.
- human: organic motion, imperfect timing — gets your site as designed.

## The actioned response
Ordered intent rules per site, first match wins:
- agent + /products/* → schema.org Product JSON-LD
- agent + /docs* → markdown docs
- agent + /support* → redirect to support intake
- agent + * → dense agent summary

Content comes from a URL Wraith proxies and caches, or pasted inline.

## Discovery you can measure
Every agent hit lands on the dashboard — archetype, confidence,
evidence, which action fired. Relabel a session and the classifier
retrains on your traffic.

One script tag, one site key. The agents are already reading you — the
only question is whether you chose what they get.
